CSC to axe over 1000 UK jobs

Lorenzo provider CSC are readying a mass redundancy of potentially over 1000 employees across their healthcare unit ahead of their merger with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services.

The US based company, who were major players in the National Programme for IT across the North, Midlands and East of England, currently have 6500 workers in the UK and are proposing in-between a 10%-20% staffing cut.

“In order to align skills and resources to the demands of the market, we are restructuring parts of our UK organisation”, a company spokesperson told Digital Health.

“As a result, we have identified a number of roles that potentially will be made redundant. We have a voluntary redundancy programme underway and expect the majority of the job reductions to come through this programme.”

Even though the healthcare giants are stripping away their resource, they have reassured buyers that it would not affect any future or current deployments.

“Throughout the restructuring we are ensuring we continue to meet all of our client commitments”.

This is not the first time however that CSC have had a mass restructure of personnel within their UK company.

Midway through 2014, the EPR providers enforced 1500 redundancies over two months, which followed an axe of 500 employees in 2012 - with the latter provoking protests in CSC’s Chesterfield, Chorley, Leeds and Solihull sites.

Despite linking their recent announcement to a merger with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services, it is likely the US based company’s decision could well have been catalysed by the lack of new business within the UK, and a pipeline of only phase two deployments and upgrade’s.
