Lancashire Choose New EPR

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust are set to implement Servelec's RiO as their electronic patient record (EPR) in an initial five-year-deal with the possibility of a two-year extension.

The north west trust have already began the process of replacing their current best of breed system - which is married up to a legacy CSC patient administration system, in anticipation of the RiO implementation.

The community and mental health trust provide services to around 1.4 million people, including: community services; such as health visiting, podiatry, sexual health and dentistry; together with inpatient and community mental health.

The new EPR will provide a more comprehensive outlook to clinical documentation and will offer the possibility to share records across regional general practice and social care partners.

“The RiO electronic patient record (EPR) will support our clinical staff to provide high-quality care by enabling them access to timely, accurate information about our patients", Bill Gregory, chief finance officer at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, told Digital Health.

“The system will allow us to reduce the amount of time spent on paperwork and enable information to be shared between the relevant professionals to ensure a joined-up approach is taken when making decisions about patient care.”

The forward step by Lancashire is part of a nationwide digital goal, and the deployment of various systems throughout the UK have proven to be a great success.

“The increasing use of electronic patient records and sharing of information is helping to enhance clinical management and improve patient outcomes across the NHS”, Alan Stubbs, CEO at Servelec HSC, added.

The project is likely to last around four years and will be completed in a phased approach.
