The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust and Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have chosen Intersystems' TrakCare as the preferred supplier for their joint electronic patient record - in a deal that is estimated to be worth around £70 million.

The trio's joint venture will be the largest implementation in the UK for the American based company - who currently are only present within the SmartCare project and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in England, but have very much a stronghold throughout Scotland.
“AUH and LWH have signed their EPR contracts with ISC. RLBUHT has signed an Advanced Work Agreement with ISC" read the Royal's February Board Papers.
Even thought two of the three trusts have confirmed their allegiance with TrakCare, the global digital exemplars are still yet to sign formally with the providers, but will work alongside Intersystems subject to the final business case being approved by NHS Improvement.

“Although Aintree Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital have signed a contract, we are currently dealing with InterSystems on a non-contractual basis", chief information officer of the Royal and Aintree David Walliker told Digital Health.
Currently there are nine different EPR's being used across Liverpool - with several of those being best-of-breed developed in-house systems.
Editor's Note
This decision seems fitting in today's age - with more and more NHS trusts choosing to work with their geographical partners in-line with the 44 Sustainability and Transformation Plans as recommended by the latest King's Fund report.
