North Bristol To Implement New EDMS

North Bristol NHS Trust have chosen CCube Solutions' electronic document management system (EDMS) saving the trust an estimated £1.3million over four years.

The software implementation is part of the southern trust's overall "paper-lite" plan to expand the usability of their current electronic patient record - CSC's Lorenzo.

Only an estimated 223,000 of the 1.2m paper records currently stored in an offsite warehouse will be migrated onto the new EDMS - due to the remainder being documentation of inactive patients.

Currently around 850 files are transported daily to the four North Bristol sites, but this method lacks the sustainability needed in the ever-growing digital NHS.

"We simply can’t afford to keep generating paper at the pace we are, given the number of patients we see”, the trust’s informatics director Neil Darvill told Digital Health.

“The business case for the EDMS project is predicated on a scan-on-demand model where only the patient notes for people booked to attend clinic will be processed.”

The project is expected to cost £960,000, with the time to complete the document migration estimated at two years.

The trust will be using Kodak Alaris scanners - which can process more than 100 pages a minute, to index and import the documents onto CCube.

North Bristol's spend is part of their plan to invest £10m over the next two years within the IT department.
